Hajera Memon – A vision to inspire and expand young minds with creative Islamic literature

Hajera Memon trained and qualified as a banking lawyer in London, U.K. She left her city career when she felt her work raised a faith conflict and wasn’t in line with her Islamic beliefs. She decided to take a leap of faith and pursue her entrepreneurial and creative passion for literature.

Hajera set up Shade 7 Publishing, inspired by the hadith, ‘there are 7 types of people shaded on the Day of Judgement’ and with a vision to publish uniquely aesthetic, engaging, novelty books to inspire and expand young minds, making faith fun and accessible for all.

Her first title, a pop-up book telling the story of Surah Al-Feel, the Story of The Elephant from the Qur’an, has been stocked in Harrods and Selfridges in London, as well as in malls from Makkah to Malaysia.

Her other titles include a colour changing Wudu Bath Book, published in English and Arabic, and an interfaith board book with her Jewish friend Medeia Cohan, called Hats of Faith which has sold rights across the USA and Canada with mainstream publisher Chronicle and in Australia and New Zealand with Hardie Grant Egmont.

Her latest title is a fold-out and lift-the-flap book on Islamic Months and she prays these books will be the source of many happy and treasured memories of Islam and most of all, accepted as a source of sadaqa jariyah for her and all involved insha’Allah!

You can order the books from Shade 7 Publishing

    Hi Hajera,
Congratulations on your nomination for the Selfies Award. I’m one of the other nominees and I thought it might be fun if the eight finalists got together to share ideas.
I don’t know any other authors and it would be great if we can all meet in person at the London Book Fair.

I was thinking of setting up a WhatsApp group. Let me know what you think.

    Best wishes,
    Caroline
